Some people believe that a person’s culture is defined by their country of origin, while others believe that has only a minor influence.

Discuss both these views and give your opinion

Interestingly, everyone alive today regardless of where he/she is in the globe has a culture; a way of life that is generally accepted by the people. The issue here is two-faced; firstly some people are of the view that a person’s culture is predefined by his/her country of origin. On the other hand some people believe that a person’s country of origin only has a negligible impact on his/her way of life. In this writing, I shall engage viable reasoning, expansions and illustrations in analyzing the views and thereafter take a stand on the subject matter.

Firstly, people’s culture is predominantly defined by their country of origin. It is not new that the world is multi-cultural in nature and ideally one of the underlining factors that differentiate one people from another is their way of life which is birthed from their country of origin. It is a global phenomenon that even within a country you can equally have various cultures and ethnicities which further strengthen the ideology that what is really responsible for people’s way of life is their place of birth. Take for instance; Nigeria has more than seventy (70) various cultures, ethnicities and languages; which is solely responsible for the kind of food they eat, clothes they wear, moral standard and several other aspects of the way of life of people. Therefore, it is clear that one’s place of birth not just the country has a great impact on his or her culture.

However, some also hold the view that one’s country of origin only has a little or no influence on his/her culture. Looking at the issue of pluralism, globalization, new world order and a world of single currency, it is clear that one’s original place of birth has insignificant role in the overall way of life of such a person. The world is currently governed by divergence of reasoning which is gradually sliding the issue of individualistic or ‘original’ culture into extinction. The United States of America is a country that seeks to accommodate all people of the earth; this has made it to look beyond its own inherited culture and way of life to embrace values, morals and way of life that gives anyone and everyone a sense of belonging. In sum, we are currently in a world where what determines people’s way of life is the global norm and not necessarily their country of origin.   

In conclusion, in no distant time people’s country of origin will become so irrelevant in deciding their way of life, but there will still be a few that will hold firm to their cultures as it relates to their countries and places of birth, this is my opinion and we should be ready and willing to accept one in whatever state we finds ourselves.
